i think there shouldn’t be a price on your safety but if you live in a pretty safe neighborhood then i would buy a less expessive one .

I would say 500-1000 dollars depending on what company and the quality of the work thats done. but yea 35 dollars a month for monitoring is a good price a month.

This sounds like Brinks, ADT, or one of the other large conglomerate security companies. Please do yourself a big favor and stay away from these guys! At $35 bucks a month you are buying the installation…they don’t give anything away! I’ll state my reasoning: When you sign with the “big boys” your money goes into some huge corporate coffers. If you have a local, licensed, professional installation company do the work, your money stays local. I have never been impressed by any of ADT or Brinks installers, for the most part they are not very professional, and their work is usually substandard. A local guy wants your return business, and will provide you with a better, more professional installation. The local guy doesn’t have some sales quota he has to maintain, and your monthly monitoring fees should be cheaper. The certificate to get the insurance discount is a crock, just tell your agent you’ve installed a monitored system and he’ll adjust your premium according to their company policy. With the local guy, you won’t get roped into a 3 year monitoring agreement, don’t go for more than an annual agreement with anyone. Hope this helps! Shop around with some of the independent alarm companies, you’ll be alot happier in the end.

While I may not be answering your question the way you want me to, I am answering it correctly none the less:

Good hardware and locks should be the first step in home security, Even the best alarms coupled with crappy locks will leave you almost as vulnerable as having NO ALARM at all.

You can’t STOP intruders, but you can certainly slow them down with layers of security: GOOD locks and a reputible LOCAL alarm company. In the short run you will pay more money, but in the long run you will SAVE money both in safety & security in your investment.

PS. Whoever gave Gr8alarmguy a thumbs-down should go sit in the corner and think about your actions, You should be ashamed of yourself,—HE’S 100% CORECT!!!
A proactive alarm company can easily cut the response time by several minutes!

He gets a thumbs-up from ME!
