Honestly, they are a deterent, but if someone knows you have valuables and are dead set on getting them, or if they are intending on a home invasion. A security system is not going to stop them. The system is only truly secure if it is monitored and they call you on the phone if there is an alert. Most have you to give them a password that lets them know if it is truly a false alarm.
You bet they are – be sure the stickers are posted on your windows and they will deter a break-in. I’ve had 3 false alarms in the past 7 yrs. and by the time I reurned home (10 mins.) the police were here and they searched my house before they would let me in my door. It’s worth $30 a month to know it’s monitored by the security company and police!
Be reasonable. You can never be able to feel 100% safe, can you? I mean, anywhere? anytime? Security systems can offer a measure of peace of mind, but this depends on many things. Consider, if the system makes a very loud noise, but only within your house, does this achieve the thing you want? Or, if a silent alarm is tripped, and only alerts some remote location, whereby persons are dispatched to investigate, is this what you want? Now imagine that YOU were the intruder, what would deter you?
